      RE: bilingual baby
Thank you for coming with such an interesting topic.
I also used to think about this. In the end, I decided not to do that. My idea was English or / and German.
In my opinion, to do this makes sense if:
      a) the foreign language is a mother tongue of one of the parents of the child
      b) the child is living with his parents abroad
That means, either one of the parents is talking to the child just using the foreign language or the child is entirely surrounded by that in it´s daily life.
I am affraid, living e.g. in the Czech Republic, with both parents speaking in Czech to him, the child could get confused to hear the foreign language from one of the parenst just time to time (although, even this is probably certainly better than nothing). In my opinion, it is hardly possible to organize the family life in such a way, that one of the Czech parents would be really talking to the child just in English.
In this case, it would more likely be "just teaching" then a bilingual education.
My intention is therefore to support my children in learning foreign languages rather than bringing them up in a biligual way. (Also an English nursery or kindergarten could be useful for the child, at least for the part of the day it would entirely be surrounded with English, forced to use the language in each situation. What a shame, there is nothing like this in our area.)
May I ask you a little bit personal question? Is you partner, the father of your child, a foreigner?

I think when she/he ? sais my "love" is english - that means is forgein.

About me - I have an american partnerand father of my 11months old doughter. So I read a lot about it, but unfortunately can not help yet - because my doughter doesnt speak yet  and because we have to be separate for a long time.
But from what I read from real people, there is the most inportant thing to watch carefuly - czech parent speaks only czech to the child and english parent speak only english to the child.
There is a lot of reasons, but I would be rather to tell you in czech language. I am very tired for english now.
I would just say DON'T WORRY - kids are such a smart wonderful people and when they live in the family with two languages, they are excelent in a both of them. There is a problem when they are older and may stop wanting to speak in one of that languages.
But if you gonna be in CR and the other parent is english - there is NO PROBLEM.The kid will be just alsom.
Good luck and you can send me a message if you want to talk about it little more :-)

I’m expecting baby again. But we have one lingual family. I have been visiting regular week English course at state English school. Be honest it is difficult to prepare before each lesson. After returning home I feel very tired because our one-year-old daughter is no-sleeper. Of course it is good occasion how to run from daily routine. I’m wonder how I will be managing with two children…
